Binding Arbitration - Elizabeth Marx

 Binding Arbitration - Elizabeth Marx

About the book:
Through the corridors of the Windy City’s criminal courts, single mother, Libby Tucker, doesn’t wonder how far she’s willing to go to save her son’s life from cancer. The undefeated defense attorney knows she’ll take her case all the way to the majors.

Libby pleads her case at the cleats of celebrity baseball player, Banford Aidan Palowski, the man who discarded her at college graduation, begging him to live up to his biological duty. Libby’s worked her backside bare for everything she’s attained, while Band-Aid has been indulged since he slid through the birth canal and landed in a pile of Gold Coast money. But helping her might jeopardize the only thing the jock worships: his baseball career.

If baseball imitates life, Aidan admits his appears to be silver-plated peanuts, until, an unexpected confrontation with the most spectacular prize that’s ever poured from a caramel corn box blindsides him. Libby reveals his son desperately needs him and it pricks open the wound he’s carried since he abandoned her.

All Libby wants is a little anonymous DNA, but Band-Aid has a magical umpire in his head who knows Libby’s a fateball right to the heart. When a six-year-old sage, and a hippy priestess step onto the field there’s more to settle between Libby and Aidan then heartache, redemption, and forgiveness.

My Review:
On reading the blurb for this book i knew it was one i wanted to check out, and i must admit it didn't disappoint with well written strong main characters in Libby and Aiden bringing a whole new meaning to love and relationships. Making the reader follow through with this heart warming and tear jerking story, that the author has no fear bringing away from the norm in this genre. The character background and story-line are well written and enthralling, taking along the reader with all the emotions felt by the characters, leaving you laughing, crying and at times shouting out loud at the book. I would recommend this book to people who love the genre or who want a heart warming story of discovery and love mixed in with emotional and real life connotations. I applaud Elizabeth for what she has managed to do she has wrote a book that will be remembered in my heart for many years to come.

Bites - Ninfa Hayes

Bites - Ninfa Hayes

About the book:
Irina is about to become Queen of the Daemonic Court and Damon is on the run from his own nature ... where will their paths take them?

Two short stories that will seduce you with romance, danger, sensuality ... and Vampire bites.

Last of the Blood:
When the sweet scent reaches me I know I have found what I'm looking for.

My hands reach out in the darkness to the unaware girl.

She's warm and soft and doesn't even get to scream before I'm drinking deeply from her, her struggles too feeble to bother me.

Only the blood counts.

I've never tasted anything like it. Gloriously sweet, thick and strong and full of life.

I drink until the hunger subsides, until the body that I hold so close to me hangs lifelessly in my arms. Only then I see. Only then I recognize it, and the agony ... oh, the agony is more than I can bear.

5/5

My Review: This is the first story in the book and Oh My God, i was hooked from the very first sentence, this has truly returned my love of vampires and all things paranormal, so you want to hear what i thought. I loved the story-line i was captivated and compelled to keep reading, finding that i just couldn't get enough of the characters and the action. Damon is an amazingly well written and in depth character, showing both good and bad sides to him, but ultimately making his own choices in who he is and where he is going to go.I don't want to give anything way, but all i can say please go read this book Ninfa has created an amazing story with characters you can fall in love with, she has weaved a world to delve into and rap around yourself, never wanting to leave until the story is complete. This is an older young adult book, but i just can't say enough good things about it to do it justice. All credit to Ninfa for what she has achieved, now i just need more of her work to read.

DEMONICA:

Tonight is the Midwinter Solstice Ball, the most important night in the Daemonic Court's calendar.

This is the night when new disciples are chosen, when demons come out to play, and all bets are off.

As it happens, tonight is also the night I become Queen.

5/5

My Review:
The second story in this book, again a captivating and enticing read with everything a paranormal reader wants.  The characters are amazing i loved Irina and with everything that she goes through in this book, including the twists and turns as she discovers who and what she really is leave the reader with nothing to do but follow on, not wanting to put it down until the story has finished and even then finding out you want more. The story-line is well written and really brings you into her world, leaving just enough to the imagination to fall in love with everything about it. gain all credit goes to the amazing Ninfa for bringing us this story and sharing it with everyone, please i urge you go check out this new author i know there are great things to come in the future.

So Ninfa i thank you from the bottom of my heart for restoring my love of reading again, i can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for everyone next.

The Initiate - Megg Jenson

The Initiate - Megg Jenson

About the book:
Over a thousand years ago, the gods left Eloh's people and took their magic with them. To win back their favor, her people sacrifice ten female initiates every ten years. No has ever survived. There has never been a Chosen One.

Forced into becoming an initiate, Eloh will try to find a way to beat the odds, stay with her boyfriend, and survive the fires that threaten to consume her. But will her lack of faith in the gods and her disbelief in their magic doom her to a painful death?

4/5

My Review:
I was hooked right from the first paragraph with this novella, Megg manages to weave a world of magic, with characters that capture your interest and drag you into their world. Eloh is a well rounded, yet has some much depth of feeling and compassion that you do truly grow to love. This novella although it can be read on it's own with nothing lost within the story-line, it is also uses as a bridge between both of Megg's other series. So if you are finding Megg's book for the first time, or picking this up to read knowing nothing of her other stories, i believe that you will love it just as much as i did. I would recommend you to head out and grab yourself a copy of this book and give it a read, especially if you love gods/goddesses and myth and magic. I really don't think you will be disappointed.

Oceans of red Volume 2 - Willow Cross

Oceans of Red volume two - Willow Cross

About the book:
Remy's saga continues as she comes to terms with who she is and what she will become.

4/5

My Review:
This is the amazing second book in the Oceans series by Willow, all i can say is that the characters continue to grow and mature. Making the reader continue to fall in love with them, and want to follow through the story-line, leaving the reader delving into the suspense, action and of course all the adventure that comes along with this series. Willow has managed to captivate the reader in to wanting to follow through with the next book. People who love to read about zombies, but want something with that little extra twist, this series is for you and i urge you to go and check it out. Willow is kind enough to have the first book free, go and get it i know you will fall in love with it just as i have, and i know i can't wait to read the next book and what Willow has in store for these characters.

Welcome Vera Jane Cook, many thanks for taking the time to answer my questions on behalf of the amazing readers out there.

So on to the questions.

1.  Annabel Horton, Lost Witch of Salem has been out for a few months now but how did it feel for you on release day?

It felt terrific. The book was actually written years ago.  I was so happy to finally find a publisher and I could not have been more excited to share Annabel’s voice.

2.  From The lost witch of Salem  which is your favourite character ? and why?

My favorite character is Annabel herself. She’s not perfect and she finds a lot of excuses for what she does, she justifies her deeds, even taking bodies. But she does everything in the name of God and feels she is now entitled to take fate into her own hands.

3. Is there a favorite genre of books that you love to read and write?

Just about everything. I enjoy writing southern fiction, women’s fiction, paranormal and spec. My favorite books are usually women’s fiction, writers like Shreve and Picoult.

4. If you could send a letter of advice to your younger self what would it say? And why?

I would tell myself to start writing earlier. I waited a very long time but then again, maybe I didn’t know anything about life for a very long time.

5. What is your inspiration/muse while you are writing?

My partner of nineteen years who will always tell me when something doesn’t work.

6.What do you like to do in your down time?

Go to the country and commune with nature, take walks, cook, read and watch my little dog run amuck.
So just because I’m a little mad here’s some random questions for you to answer

7. What is your favourite fruit ? and why ?

I like Minola oranges because they’re so sweet.

8.  If I looked in your fridge now what would I find ?

Coffee, milk, half and half and last night’s dinner, which was brisket.

9. What 3 thing would you take if you were stranded on a desert island?

Books, my lover and my dog.

10. What songs do you like to sing to whilst working?

I like old rock and roll and 70s rock.

11. Chocolate or Vanilla ?

Vanilla came latter but now I love it.

12. What does turquoise  smell like?

The sashay in my dresser.

13.  What one thing could you not live without ?

Coffee

14. Why’s a Raven like a writing desk ?

It makes me think of Poe, who was a writer

One final question what are you working on now?

It’s called Misty Flowers, it’s southern fiction and is about sex and the dysfunction of a family living in 1960s small town Georgia.

I think that concludes my questions for today many thanks for doing the interview.

The Lost Witch of Salem

From the Salem Witch trials through the Nineteenth Century and beyond, Annabel Horton is pursued by the devil’s disciple, Urban Grandier, the demonic priest from the incident at Loudon. She must take the bodies of those that the devil favors to protect her family. She must uncover the motive behind the illusive Ursula/Louis Bossidan, the scandalous cross-dresser who is pursuing her beautiful granddaughter, and she must learn, being one of God’s most powerful witches, how to use her power. But will it be enough to save her husband from Urbain’s fiery inferno? Will it be enough to save her children from demons greater than themselves? Read on, you will learn more…..

Excerpt:
When I am not in the form of flesh, I live in the confines of shadow. The psychics of your dimension have said that I can be seen floating between the kiss of dusk and the evening moon. Yes, some of you can actually see me, though you are unaware of what I am. You usually ignore me because I vanish so quickly. I simply blend into the surface of your world and disappear,  into objects, into trees, into the soft fur of a sleeping squirrel, into anything that will have me.
Before I begin my tale, you must know this: I can also blend into a human body. I can steal your flesh if I choose. But before you judge me, you must understand my loneliness. You have no idea how desperately I desire the physical senses you so cavalierly take for granted. But please, do not fear me. I will not harm the innocent. Hear me out before you cast any stones. There are secrets in my tale worth knowing.
The snap of my neck appears to have granted me immortality as a captured soul, doomed to live over and over again in stolen flesh and blood. Therefore, I take bodies in exchange for my freedom. I want you to understand that if I were to ever choose your flesh, I would mean you no harm. I would simply borrow the luxury of your language and take comfort in the pleasure of your warm, beating heart.
The process of my abduction is painless. You see, the earth holds time. When I consume a body all I do is absorb time. It is quite simple. My soul moves out of one perception and into another. Let me reassure you that though I can take any one of you, I prefer the flesh of those whom the devil favors, and I do not have to go very far to consume the devil’s own.

4/5

My Review:
It took me a few chapters to get into this book, but once i had got over that i really enjoyed the story. The characters were well written and the story line itself was far different to what i expected. The time travel and family connections are amazingly in depth and the fight from the devils clutches is well worked and well written. This is not a YA read but it is full of action and with great interaction between the characters. I really like Annabel as a character she try's to keep her family together and make good judgements but they don't always work out the way she planned. I would recommend this book to people who love cross over as it has witches, time travel, demons, history and action in it. This is really worth picking up and reading.

Johanna Frappier - Interview

Today i have an interview by Johanna the author of The Fairy circle series, make her feel at home.

1. Have you made mistakes along the way, for example, do you want to share anything be it a publishing company/agency that people should avoid?

I've made lots of mistakes. Lots and lots of grammatical mistakes, dropped word/missed letter mistakes, awkward sentence mistakes because i didn't read my story out loud when editing- you need to read your story out loud when editing..... I Google a lot to get a feel for a company's reputation and read the going's on in Facebook groups, but i think the most important thing you can do for yourself in publishing is what you should do for yourself in life - work with the people you want to work with. Don't  work with an ass because they might publish your book.:D

2. What are your habits when you sit down to create? Do you have to be in a certain room? outside?

I love to work outside when it’s nice, but I usually work very early in the morning, 4am or so, and sometimes in the middle of the night. The silence is wonderful.

3.  Did your art come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?

I had always written well.  I was told, ‘You write well.  Here’s an A.’  I didn’t *need* to write until I had my third child and realized I was going to die a long, slow death if I continued to repress my evil/freakish side.  So I adjusted my life to include writing and now no one has to suffer my insanity.  Much.

4.  Any favorite bands? Do you use music to inspire you as you create your art?

Each of my personalities demands different music on any given day.  I love Sting and George Michael, some Metallica and Ozzy, lots of Evanescence, loads of Enya and Kitaro.  Sometimes I dwell in the 80s, sometimes the 90s, sometimes I live in the now.  The 50s - not so much.  I love Zydeco, harp, bagpipes, and tribal rhythms – always instrumental for writing.  I listen to trance while writing too, but not if they talk too much.  Lots of angels going WwwwaaAAAaaaaaAAAAAh is okay.

5.  What steps have you taken to succeed?

I don’t give up.

6.  What songs do you like to sing in the shower?

Go To Sleep Little Baby, ala Oh, Brother Where Art Thou.  I love that movie. I need to get into      the siren mood, concoct some killer females for the next part of  FAIRY ROUNDABOUT. :D  I also sing   Take On Me in angelic falsetto, but I think it might translate as mermaid screech.

7.  What does Blue smell like?

Blue smells light and clear and fresh.

8. If I looked in your fridge now what would I find?

Yogurt, field greens, lots of fruits and vegetables, chicken chili (I forget what it’s really called – they put it on the table when you have dim sum in Boston Chinatown)…yes, I eat junk – that’s why it’s not in the fridge.

9.  If you could take 1 thing onto a dessert island what would it be and why?

Fresh water – because I’m practical first.*Exciting* is buried under many layers of *are we secure?

10.  Why's a raven like a writing desk?

I tried to answer this, but I kept getting distracted by dust motes. How is an arty farty like an intelligentsia?  When he’s accomplished at fooling people into   thinking his nutty question is deep.  :D

Justice Inc story-line review and more

Justice Inc
So for this post i am heading in a different direction, a lot of my readers know all about reading books, but what about another side to reading!!! There is a whole other world out there and it is Role Play (r/p). So for those who don't know what this is i will explain a little before i get into what i am doing here, R/P is an area of writing that is loosely based on characters from your favourite books like the Brotherhood/ Fallen Angel series, even indie  etc, there are many many more depending on how and where you want to look, and it is not hard to find this area of writing. So you say what does this have to do with reading/writing and reviewing, well the people behind these characters love them so much that they want to share them with you the reader and they do this by creating and adapting characters then writing story-lines for everyone to read. These characters will vary, with each different person that plays them each bringing their individual stamp and writing style, as well as new ideas for the future of the character and where they are going to go, some of which the original author of the book would never have thought of. So if you are interested in looking up this type of writing there is no better place then the good old world of facebook where you will find something for everyone, please remember though these pages are 18+ , have rules to keep everyone safe and happy, and always have a real people with lives behind them, but feel free to head out and find them. So onto what i originally planned to do, i am here to review one particular page and story-line on facebook and i will now jump in and give you all an idea as to the sort of creative and brilliant writing that can be found even if it isn't in a book.

So the page link is here feel free to check them out, but the story-line may not be for everyone:
Justice Inc story-line page: http://www.facebook.com/groups/369765156372771/

This is a week long storyline that they are writing so although not completed yet it is well worth checking out, i will give you a snippet of what to expect and what their aims are straight from the page.

"Justice Inc is doing a special S/L on the atrocities in Sudan. We are trying to bring awareness about this situation the only way we know how by the written word. We mean no harm or indignities by writing this S/L."

Official start of the S/L is going to be Tuesday March 13, 2012

Yours truly Lassiter and Skyler.

ATTENTION: Here is sneak peak at the Start of our S/L "Another Man's War" Start date is March, 13th 2012 on are S/L wall make sure you come and check it out.

Lassiter Fallen
Sitting in the conference room with Sky and Delvecchio while we go over the case file for the old case. My heart and mind wasn't really into do this because deep down inside I felt something was wrong. I couldn't shake the feeling that something big was coming and I wasn't sure what it was.

Feeling Sky's eyes on me, I turn my head to look at her. The frown on her face told me she was feeling the same vibe that I was too. Pushing the files away from and standing suddenly, I move to the window. Crossing my arms over my chest as I stare out at the peaceful city that had become home to me all those years ago.

I listen to Delvecchio's voice as he reads to files aloud with only half an ear, my thoughts were turned internally on what this strange feeling was. I hear a phone ring near by but I ignore until I hear Sky's voice raise to a near shout.

Whipping around to stare at her, her face white with fear. "Marco! Marco are you there?" She shakes her and hits the speaker button on the phone.

The sounds of shots and shouting echo through the speaker. My heart sinks in my chest with each gun shot. Then Marco's voice came through the speaker, quiet and fearful. "We need help. They are attacking us. I didn't know who else to call. Help us! Please Lass! Sky!" The sounds of rustling comes quickly after his words as if he was laying the phone down.

I open my mouth to speak when another voice comes out of the speaker. "Nawvlee wants to see you preacher man."

Soon there were the sounds of a struggle and then it went deathly quiet. My mind was numb from what I had just heard. I didn't know what to think or do at this point.

"Lass."

My eyes fly to Sky at the sound of my name, to see her eyes filled with tears of horror and anger. Walking over to her and wrapping my arms around her. I could feel her body shaking.

"What the fuck was that? Who the hell was Marco? Tell me what is going on."

My eyes wander to Delvecchio, to find him standing with his hands clenched into fist at his sides.

"Marco is a priest who does missionary work over in Sudan. He is a family friend we had meet years ago. What you just heard was an entire medical village come under attack."

"Who is Nawvlee?"

"He is a war lord over there that is destroying the country. He and his army move from one village to another, killing anyone in sight and kidnapping the children and forcing them to become his soldiers."

So as you can see this is going to be a very intense and adult storyline, but feel free to join everyone over there, and on to my review.

5/5

My review:
All though on the surface this is a very real and to the point storyline, i find that this is written with thought and feeling by all the characters involved, and all credit has to go to the amazing writers that love to write storyline's for both the readers and their own enjoyment, even if at times  emotionally draining and a very hard story to write. They feel that they need to get it out there in the only way they know how and that is to write about it. The characters are well built, well structured and have emotional depth, and you find that you are captivated by what they have to say not only through their words but also their actions. They weave believable and in depth scenes that you can loose yourself in and really feel like you are part of all of the action that is happening around, with great character interaction and realistic fight and action scenes that leave just enough to the imagination for you to picture them yet leaving out no detail. This story is not for the faint hearted and is definitely an 18+ read it is well worth not only checking out this storyline, but checking out others that they are writing as they bring so much quality and depth to their work and writing that it is hard not to fall in love with the characters all over again and in a new light with every read. I found that i fell in love with many of the characters, and i believe that other readers will feel the same so head over and find out what is happening at Justice Inc, with Skyler and Lassiter being the main characters behind all the goings on over there, you will also love characters such as Felicity, Veck, Ali, Ramiel, Pynx, Ace and of course find some old names such as Tohrment,  Wellsie and Vishous. Happy reading and please feel free to let me know what you think of this storyline. I know i will be keeping track of all of the happening over there and enjoying what they have to say and write.

Alexia Purdy - Author interview

Welcome Alexia, many thanks for taking the time to answer my questions on behalf of the amazing readers out there.

So on to the questions.

1. As most of my readers know you have released Ever Shade  out into the world, how does it feel?

It feels amazing, It’s finally happened and I couldn’t be more excited. It really is my dream coming alive.

2.  From the Ever Shade which is your favourite character ? and why?

I’d have to say I really liked Soap (Rylan), he’s witty, funny, and just that much mysterious that just intrigues me.

3.  Is there a favourite genre of books that you love to read and write?

I love to read Urban Fantasy/paranormal genres, Dystopian too. I also like to read these genres because it is my favourite. It’s definitely a hot genre and there are so many to choose from but the ones that stand out, really stand out.

4.  If you could send a letter of advice to your younger self what would it say? And why?

Don’t wait, time flies so fast, in a blink of an eye 10 years have passed. Get writing and do some more travelling!

5.What is your inspiration/muse while you are writing?

I use a lot of music to give me the right tone to write certain scenes in my books. Slow melancholy for sad or emotional scenes, fast beat dubstep/dance music for fight scenes and scary parts, contemporary and classical instrumental for transitional and free writing. It helps a lot and I couldn’t write without it.

6. What do you like to do in your down time?

I read a lot. I Have 4 kids so down time is not really accessible right now but a book is great, no commercials, I can bookmark it often and come straight back to it. My kids don’t seem to mind Mommy’s nose stuck in a book. Interruptions are frequent but books wait patiently for my return.

So just because I’m a little mad here’s some random questions for you to answer

7. What is your favourite fruit ? and why ?

My favourite fruit has got to be Mangos, they are so sweet and divine. Messy though.

8.  If I looked in your fridge now what would I find ?

Milk, leftovers from eating out, juice, cheese, bacon, sandwich stuff and yogurt. Though from the looks of it, there are lots of other things, hmmm.

9. What 1 thing would you take if you were stranded on a desert island?

I hope I would have a endless supply of chapstick. I lick my lips constantly and they burn without chapstick. I have to keep one on hand at all times. I actually get anxiety without one available; my lips tend to burn like fire without it.

10. What songs do you sing in the shower?

I love to sing, I sing all sorts of tunes in the shower, lately it’s been a lot of Adele, Katie Perry, Lisa Hannigan, Evanescence. I do tend to sing more in the car than the shower.

11. Chocolate or Vanilla ?

Chocolate all the way.

12.What does Green smell like?

Fresh cut grass in the morning freshly watered.

13. What one thing could you not live without ?

Besides the chapstick? LOL, right now, it’s caffeine, I down coke soda a wee bit too much.

14.  Why’s a Raven like a writing desk ?

It stares and taunts at you.

15.  One final question what are you working on now?

I am currently working on releasing my second novel to be published called: Reign of Blood in April. I have the second novel of my Dark Faerie Tale series: Ever Fire completed and awaiting publishing in October 2012. Reign of Blood is a bit more in the Horror/Post-apocalyptic genre and has been challenging to write. After that, I plan to work on the third book of the Faerie series: Ever Winter, which will release in 2013.

I think that concludes my questions for today many thanks for doing the interview.

4/5

My Review:

I really enjoyed reading this book it had me captured from the first chapter, with believable in depth characters along with a well plotted and thought out story-line there is a little of something for everyone. I loved Remy as a character she is strong willed, enigmatic and independent but also has a deep feeling of family and duty. She is resourceful and well rounded, capturing the reader and drawing them into the whole story. Along with Remy we meet her older brother and younger sister who are equally lovable in their own unique ways.  The story-line carries the reader along and making them believe that demons really can exist and would dearly love to take over the world and make it their own. All credit goes to Willow for managing to produce a book that not only provides great characters, but also provides a great escape from everyday life giving the reader everything that they need to delve into the world that has been created and not want to leave. I will be heading over to read the next part of this story and can not wait to find out what happens to Remy and the gang in their fight against the demons. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal, but also enjoys their stories with a bit of a twist.

Forever - Gillian Joy

Forever - Gillian Joy

About the book:
Book two in the Guardian series.
Hannah’s life has never been easy, despite her strong willed determination and her extra “gifts”, it's still always been hard work keeping an entire world full of the supernatural under control, but having achieved a small semblance of control over most of the custas, Hannah was hoping to be able to slip back into her life of normalcy. Wishful thinking when you're the guardian of all supernatural.
With all the issues she’d had to endure in her past, she'd never had to worry about the mermaids before, so why would they choose now to suddenly start haunting her dreams and her life. Then there are the fairies to contend with as well, just when she manages to get one aspect of the crudelitas under control, the others decide it’s time to start causing problems.
All Hannah wants is some quiet family time and a chance to reflect on her feelings for Gabriel but instead she's thrown back into the thick of the supernatural world, and this time it threatens to invade the quiet family life she has worked so hard to establish. There's no running away this time, she has to front the challenges head on, but forever can be a long time if you can't be with the one you love.

5/5

My Review:
The first thing i have to say is amazing, Gillian has done it again. She has managed to seamlessly follow on the amazing first book Guardian with an even better second one. The characters are growing and maturing both in themselves and in the close knit relationships with each other. With Hannah's  constant struggle with her emotions for Gabriel, constantly causing her inner turmoil that she believes will lead to heart break no matter what she decides to do. Until in a twist of fate a few things become clear but what will Hannah do with this new twist? Hannah's growing relationship with Bernard who has always been there for her, in their ever changing relationship. They find that although they both  have a huge revelation to confess neither want's to have that conversation will the depth of their relationship change? Gillian has managed to make the reader submerge themselves if possible even deeper into Hannah's world and everything that comes with it, she has managed to captivate you into reading and feeling every new twist and turn that the story-line takes, feeling every emotion with a real depth as it is felt by each respective character. She has flawlessly managed to integrate new and existing characters bringing together and describing in depth the new crudelitas we meet and grow to love. I can't stress enough how amazing and captivating this book is, and i urge every paranormal loving reader to go and check out this series. I know i for one can not wait for my next Hannah and Gabriel fix.
