Touch of Power - Maria V Snyder

Touch of Power - Maria V Snyder

About the book :
Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan absorbs their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.
Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life...
5/5
I must admit this is the first of Maria's book's i have read, even though i have been wanting to read some of her work for a long time. At first sight i love the cover and i know I'm a sucker for a good cover artwork. I found Avry to be an in depth, well thought out and well wrote character. She has all the traits that i love with a few that i love to hate. The story line is intriguing and captivating, always leaving you wanting more and to push onto the next chapter. The world surrounding Avery is well written, and believable. The action is well wrote and evenly spaced throughout the book always giving the reader something else to keep them wanting more. I loved all the main characters and the use of magic both for good and evil believable and enticing. I believe that lovers of Maria's books will love this one also, and people that have not read her work, i implore you to go and read this i do not believe you will be disappointed.

Avengers Angel - Heather Killough-Walden

Avengers Angel -  Heather Killough-Walden

About the book:
The first in Heather Killough-Walden's fantastic new paranormal series, the Lost Angels, features Uriel, the Angel of Vengeance. Four thousand years ago, four archangels were cast down to Earth in human form. God's favourites, they came to find their mates, the other half of their souls made only for them, without whom they will ever be complete. Uriel, Gabriel, Azrael and Michael, however, were not alone. They were followed by another, determined to find the archesses for himself, and whose power cannot be underestimated. But after centuries of fruitless searching, the archangels -- and their enemy -- have all but given up hope. Until one day beautiful and gifted Eleanore Granger crosses paths with Uriel, the Angel of Vengeance. And as a storm rages, outside forces conspire together, initiating an age old battle of good versus evil to win the first archess.

4/5

This is the first book out in a new series, and i must admit i love everything about it the cover is divine and the story captivating. I managed to get this book as i won it in a competition, and boy am i so glad i did. The whole back story of this book is amazingly well written, with in depth characters and a to die for story line. The 4 Archangels are different in so many ways, and you would expect nothing else with the the backgrounds that they come from as God's right hand men. Eleanore as a character is amazing always doing the un-expected, but in the end there's only one archess for every archangel. All of the characters are brought to life in such a way that you believe that they are the real thing, wanting to know whats going to happen next. I found that from the very first page i was immersed in their world never wanting to leave, and i was left wanting more. I can't wait for the next book in this series to arrive i urge anyone that loves to read angel stories to head out and get this book i believe you will all love it as much as i did.

Captivate - Carrie Jones

Captivate - Carrie Jones

About the book:
Zara and her friends knew they hadn't solved the pixie problem for good. Far from it. The king's needs grow deeper every day he's stuck in captivity, while his control over his people gets weaker. It's made him vulnerable. And now there's a new king in town.

A turf war is imminent, since the new pixie king, Astley, is moving in quickly. Nick nearly killed him in the woods on day one, but Zara came to his rescue. Astley swears that he and Zara are destined to be together, that he's one of the good guys. Nick isn't buying it, though Zara isn't as sure -- despite herself, she wants to trust the new king. But it's a lot more than her relationship with Nick that is at stake. It's her life -- and his.

4/5

This is a great second book in the series, it follows on nicely from the first one continuing with all the trials and tribulations that seem to follow Zara around. In this book we meet Zara's father in a different light, with everything seeming to go wrong what else can happen, oh yes a new king or two could turn up in town. When Zara has to deal with her first love Nick and one of the new kings who is following her everywhere she goes, how is she going to work out all her issues, then everything changes and she has to make some big decisions about which way she is going to go. I loved that i was still just as captivated by Zara's story in this book as the first, with everything that was going on the story line compelled you to read on. I must admit at first i did not see the twist coming with Nick, but in the end i can see that life is not going to get any easier for Zara. I loved the whole of this and really want to go and get the next instalment to continue on in Zara's world. I don't think readers of the first book will be disappointed in this one.

Need - Carrie Jones

Need - Carrie Jones

About the book:
Zara White suspects there's a freaky guy semi-stalking her. She's also obsessed with phobias. And it's true, she hasn't exactly been herself since her stepfather died. But exiling her to shivery Maine to live with her grandmother? That seems a bit extreme. The move is supposed to help her stay sane...but Zara's pretty sure her mom just can't deal with her right now.

She couldn't be more wrong. Turns out the semi-stalker is not a figment of Zara's overactive imagination. In fact, he's still following her, leaving behind an eerie trail of gold dust. There's something not right - not human - in this sleepy Maine town, and all signs point to Zara.

In this creepy, compelling breakout novel, Carrie Jones delivers romance, suspense, and a creature you never thought you'd have to fear.

4/5

I must admit i really enjoyed this book, it is a great first of the series. The author manages to draw you into the story line, as well as immerse you in Zara's world. I loved the whole everything is not quite as it seems as well as finding out the backgrounds to each of the character's, and what eventually they are all going to bring to the table. This book grabbed me from the very first chapter, making me want to read on and find out all the strange happenings going on. Anyone that is wanting a really good young adult read will love this series and i know i headed straight for the next book, as i wanted to find out what was going to happen to Zara and the gang next.

Secret Santa - Kristine Cheney

Secret Santa - Kristine Cheney

About the book:
Holly Gordon's estrangement from her family makes loneliness of the Christmas season hit close to home. Volunteering for the annual Ashton Falls Secret Santa Program is more than a comfort, it's a blessing. Just knowing she's able to help another hurting soul experience the joy of a heartfelt Christmas makes her own reality a tiny bit sweeter, that is, until Marcus Jenner ends up on her list.

Marcus Jenner is more than a bronze, muscled looker. This Chickasaw loner isn't happy being placed on the town's Secret Santa list. Suffering from the blow of a devastating loss, he has chosen to withdraw from living almost completely. For the life of him, he can't figure why this pretty little blonde keeps bumping into him, calling him by name, and insisting on giving him presents. Unfortunately for Marcus, every time she does, a billowing cloud of havoc seems to ensue. Why can't this uninvited vixen leave him alone?

They say time and fate have all of the answers. Holly, in all of her innocence, is drawn to Marcus like a moth to the flame. But Marcus has no intentions of submitting to the threat of his new found feelings. A painful exchange pushes their lives into a pendulum chaos. His demand for privacy is granted by Holly's hidden illness. Her sudden absence hits him hard, especially when the arrival of a stranger delivers the rest of his gifts. Right away, he knows somethings horribly wrong.

Love and selfless giving can rouse a wounded, sleeping heart. But sometimes a Secret Santa gets a few unexpected gifts of her own.

5/5

This is a novella that is most definitely aimed at Christmas spirit. When Holly gets her secret Santa for the 12days of Christmas, she isn't to know that the man she is giving present to is going to change her life. Marcus her secret Santa has been suffering since the loss of his wife, and when Holly got caught delivering his present, he did not take it too well. As more and more presents get delivered they both realise that maybe fate has brought them together, but when Marcus gets the wrong idea about Holly he tell her to leave and never come back. Although he feels really bad he has no idea that her disappearance is also associated with her illness. In the end she gets a secret Santa present of her own, and its one that changes her life forever.
This is a really great read especially for Christmas, the characters are amazing and the emotion is high. This is an emotional, love inspiring and heart warming book, giving the reader all the comforting feelings that they need at this time of year, as well as also being inspiring and captivating even for a novella. If you are looking for a quick read this Christmas they go get this book and you wont regret it, i know i didn't it gave me that happy feeling of warmth and love that only a really good book can.

5/5

This book is about Lilyann Moon, when her grandmother dies out of the blue, and under suspicious circumstances she tries to make sense of it all. With eleven younger members of the family, she and everyone else are set to make a discovery that will change their lives forever. When items left in her grandmothers will start to make them all question why their grandmother left them. After struggling to deal with everything that has happened Lily returns to her grandmothers home where she discovers the mystery behind the items her grandmother left everyone. Now she has to deal with her family members, and explain to them that she and the rest of them are witches, and they are the strongest coven to exist. During this period she meets Mason and everything in her personal life changes, but will the secrets he hides and her family be in danger and will they accept him?
From the very start of this book i was captivated by the characters, and the storyline. The scenes with Lily's grandmother will reading were emotional and heart felt drawing the reader into the world and making sure you wanted to stay there. I loved Lily's character and felt like i was going through every emotion she felt with her, especially when it came to her family, friends and Mason. The coven dynamics were amazing and the in depth knowledge for the spells and rituals was well written and researched, leaving the reader believing that when they are performed they would work out. Each family member had their own quirks and were individual, making me laugh at times and want to cry at others. In all i really like this young adult paranormal fiction book and would recommend it to readers who enjoy reading that genre. So all credit goes to Kymberlee in her writing and i cant wait for the next instalment to be released to find our where Lily is going next.
