Bound by the vampire- Chloe Hart

Bound by the vampire - Chloe Hart

About the book:
Celia Albright, an eighth-blood Fae and a spellcaster, is having a very bad day. She’s being targeted by an unknown assassin, and with most of her friends out of the city fighting demons, she goes to the only other person in Boston who might be powerful enough to help her.

Evan Grant is a vampire who prides himself on his survival instincts. He’s avoided the Fae ever since they killed his maker years ago, and he knows he’d be crazy to take a Faery girl under his protection—especially since it might be the Fae themselves who want Celia dead.

If he were smart, he’d send her away. But when he saves her life instead, Celia and Evan find themselves caught up in an adventure neither of them expected—and an attraction neither of them is prepared for.

My Review:
This is the second book in the series and it had me hooked as soon as I turned the pages, I enjoyed the first one so much I was eager to go and read the next one and it didn't leave me disappointed at all. This book centres around the characters of Ceilia who has self confidence issues and never feels worthy of anything that comes her way but her world gets turned upside down when she makes a discovery and turns to Evan for help. Celia is a great character and has lots of growing and learning potential within herself and i would love to see how she develops beyond this book. Evan well what can I say he's the guy everyone should love to hate, he is self centred and has no intention of doing anything that doesn't benefit him in the long run. But everyone see's something in him that he doesn't see himself, and i find that i want to follow him on his path of self discovery and find out where he will end up. The story-line is well written and captivating making you believe that everything around you could happen and the world the author creates gives you just enough to be able to use your own imagination in order for you to feel and loose yourself in the whole story. I would recommend this series to lover of the paranormal genre as well as those that love a little more adult content along with of course the fact they are short reads so anyone with time issues would be able to pick up and enjoy these books in their down time or even lunch breaks. I know I will be heading over to see what the next instalment holds for the characters of this book and where the author is going to take the story-line she has put so well into place. Foe me a definite buy and an enjoyable read.

Taming the vampire - Chloe Hart

Taming the vampire - Chloe Hart

About the book:
An unlikely partnership…

Demon hunter Liz Marlowe and vampire Jack Morgan have hated each other from the moment they met. But when a powerful enemy threatens their beloved city of Boston, they form a reluctant alliance. It’s supposed to be temporary—just one night, in fact. But as the tension between them builds to the breaking point, neither is prepared for what happens next.

Taming the Vampire is Book 1 of the Blood and Absinthe series.

5/5

My Review:
First I will say i got this novella as a free read, but that does not make the fact that having read it i would happily have brought the book. Liz is a feisty, confident female that seems to know what she wants and where she is going, but there is always a twist to every characters tale and for her it is the vampire she loves to hate Jack. Liz grows and develops throughout this novella and really grows into an amazing character that i grew to love. Jack is the loveable rouge but he has depth and scope that suit him really well you can't help but fall for his charms and want to find out more about him. The story-line flows so well the book is hard to put down with you wanting to find out what is going to happen next i am hooked on this series and i believe lovers of the genre will be too. I know i am rushing off to buy the next instalment so i can find out where their story goes. All credit to the author for writing and keeping me captivated and wanting to continue to read on past the first book.

Little Red Riding crop - Tiffany Reisz

Little Red Riding crop - Tiffany Reisz

About the book:
Mistress Nora needs a vacation. She might be the one flogging the clients, but Kingsley, her sexy French boss, is the real sadist who rarely gives her a day off. They strike a backseat deal: Nora gets one month off and a trip to Europe if she can sneak into a rival BDSM club and get the dirt on the owner. But she’ll need more than her little red riding crop when she comes face to face with Brad Wolfe, the one man who stands between her and freedom.

4/5

My Review:
Having read The Siren by Tiffany i was interested to find out what this short prequel novella held and i wasn't disappointed Tiffany really does bring the character of Nora out in this and it is a great read either before or after reading the Siren it gives you so much more behind where Nora came from and how she got there. I loved Brad his character that was full of the twists that he had plus his abilities to make Nora do what she doesn't really want to brought a whole new meaning to how i expected him to be. The story-line was that of pre the Siren and it is carried off very well and the writing is as always really good and leaves you not waning to put the book down once you start it. I know i will b looking for more from this author and those that love to read the genre should get out there and give her a try you might just like what you found i know i did. I will be following the rest of the series and this is ideal for those with little time or just want a quite but enjoyable read. So please go check her out and let me know what you think.

Anything he wants - Sara Fawkes

Anything he want's - Sara Fawkes

About the book:
DOWN ON HER LUCK
Lucy Delacourt's temp position isn't quite her dream job but it pays the bills...barely. The highlight of her day is riding the elevator in the mornings: she always manages to time it so that she sees the handsome stranger every day. He's fuel for her fantasies and way out of her league, but a girl can look, right?

BUT NOT FOR LONG
Everything changes however the day the handsome stranger seduces a stunned Lucy, first in the elevator then again in the parking garage after work. Completely out of character, she yields without a fight, but she has no idea her wanton acts with a man whose name she doesn't know will start a sensual chain of events that forever change her life. Because the sexy stranger is none other than Jeremiah Hamilton, billionaire CEO of Hamilton Industries, and one taste of the hot little temp isn't near enough to satisfy his need.

The billionaire has big plans for the wayward temp, plans that have nothing to do with filing paperwork..

My review:
I picked this up out of curiosity really to see what the series is about and i am glad i did. This is a fast paced book that will have you hooked until you have finished the whole thing. The characters are well written and grow throughout the book, i especially enjoyed the battle that Lucy had within herself throughout the story line. The male lead Mr Hamilton was interesting and i don't believe we got to see all of what he has to offer. He has plenty more room to grow and develop and as this is a series i can see that will happen. The story line was well written and flowed throughout the whole book, leaving you under no illusions as to where they were going to end up. This is a really good short read for those that want to read the genre but may not have loads od time on their hands or for people who are looking for a book in between their  bit main reads. I am glad i picked it up and will be going back to read the rest of the series as well as other works by this author. As always all credit goes to the author for bringing us into their world and sharing their ideas and visions with us and for that on behalf of all readers out there i thank you.

Magic, Unicorns and Goblins: Goblin Spells Unicorns - Christina and Raven Worrell

Magic, Unicorns and Goblins: Goblin Spells Unicorns - Christina and Raven Worrell

3/5

My review:
This is a really nice an sweet children's book and has a very good lesson that children need to learn, the characters re fun and engaging for little one's with a really nice story line. The book is well written and would be understood by a child old enough to read for themselves or a child that is still needing to be read too. I think children would love to meet and read about these characters and the magic that surrounds them. A good read and i would let any children i know read it.

Mardi Gras Was Over: Three Love Stories - Kathleen Valentine

Mardi Gras Was Over: Three Love Stories - Kathleen Valentine

About the book:
Mardi Gras Was Over - He arrived on a Harley one dark night and swept her off to Mardi Gras -- then off her feet. Now a lot of years have passed.

The Mermaid Shawl - She moved to an island in the Great Lakes to heal from a loss. There she found two great loves -- the lace shawls she designed to sell and the beautiful stranger she pulled from the sea.

Sailor's Valentine - Lobsterman Tristan Hancock was a loner with a sordid past, shop-owner Minerva Light was a newcomer with a mind of her own. Nobody in Port St. Magnus was ready for the two of them together.

3/5

My review:
Mardi Gras was over - This short was a really good and quick read, it keeps the reader captivated throughout the story with a really good story- line and well written characters. The detail is good and the writing is great and i fund that it really did have a very good tale to tell. Well worth the read

The Mermaid Shawl - This i think is by far my favourite short in the book, i loved the characters and the whole tale, the story line had depth and meaning and was so well written you couldn't help but fall in love with it. This short alone is well worth checking out the others in this book.  It brought great incite and knowledge into a tail as old as any sailor or sailors wife could tell you very moving.

Sailor's Valentine - What can i say i enjoyed this short but it did leave me feeling a little empty after reading it, it is well written and the story-line is good. The characters are amazing. and i really enjoyed the story, i think there are lessons to be learned in there and all that read it will find something they  relate too. Overall a good short that leaves you thinking when you finish it.

Overall this is a great book to pick up if you are short on time or just want a couple of quick reads for a lunch break etc. The stories are worth reading and the reader will enjoy what they find between the pages. All credit to the author for bringing a varied selection of work to the table i will be sure to check out dome of her other works.

Speculative Edge - Magazine review

Speculative Edge Issue 2

What's it about?
"At The Speculative Edge, our mission is - in a word - balance. We want to bring you fiction that is both exciting and enlightening, poetry that is imaginative and accessible, reviews of both big-name and independent books and movies. We'll give you insightful interviews with New York Times bestsellers and lesser-known authors. Above all else, we want to publish work that is both genre and literary.
Our second goal is to be organic. We want to change and evovle - to adapt over time to better cater our readers. To achieve this, we strive to have an open dialogue. We encourage readers to email us with questions, comments, and suggestions. Through polls, we found out that The Walking Dead is our audience's favorite returning fall show, so we featured an extended preview of the show in September. Each month we do "Reader's Choice" polls to see what their favorite stories and poems are. And in October, we'll be sending out a survey to our newsletter recipients.
Want to know how it all began? Check out our guest post on Grasping for the Wind as Shane and Danielle discuss starting the magazine."

My Review:

So i found something a little different to review for you all, a monthly magazine full of interviews, short stories, poems and film/series reviews.
Sitting down to read this i found the interviews informative, interesting and they covered a wide range of topics. The authors are from both different sides of the publication coin, with an interview from the well known author Alyson Noel as well as an interview with the indie author Sarah M Ross, both interviews are well worth the read, and then you have the addition of excerpts from their books and in total it makes for a really great reading experience.
There is also a range of short fiction to be read which is captivating and enthralling. There is something for everyone to enjoy in that selection or why not just read it all and find something new to check out. I know i enjoyed all of it immensely. Then there is the addition of the poetry, as a rule it's not my cup of tea but i must admit i did enjoy these little poems written by different people and they are well worth checking out.
Tv and Film previews, i found this an enjoyable distraction from all of the other book related things in the magazine and it is a great addition to be able to find out what's new and what's coming soon with both new and old shows alike and with the added bonus of films too it just makes it all the better to organise your time between everything. Last but by no means least of course is the well rounded book review that is well written and informative for the readers, giving a detailed incite into what you would expect from the book.
Overall i would say this is a great magazine to read on the go, full of information, books, reviews, tv/film and interviews by people you know and love. You can read a short in your break or just pick up and put down the whole thing depending on your time constraints. I know i would certainly be looking at what they have in their up coming issues and giving them a read. So go and check this out it's new and it's well worth the little effort in chasing it down.
